If you do it right, Twitter is a serendipity machine.

You post content, send DMs, and make new friends. Your friends know other people, so you get connected to new people. Suddenly, you’re hanging out with internet friends on the regular and collaborating on content.

This happens regardless of what platform you’re focused on: Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or whatever. Just look at all the TikTok houses. If you spend enough time somewhere and you’re putting out cool content and sending cold DMs, you’re going to make friends and build a network.

On the internet, The Cool Shit Law rules all. The more cool shit you do, the more cool people you meet.

So in honor of The Cool Shit Law, here’s the 8 craziest things that happened to me on Twitter or 𝕏 or whatever it’s called.

2 more things I forgot on this list:

  • A friend I made on Twitter is a groomsman in my wedding. In fact, there’s an entire table of Twitter friends in my wedding. 😂

  • I got a book deal and have sold almost 200 pre-sales of Memes Make Millions all thanks to the bird app.

The moral of the story:

Your parents and teachers will tell you not to spend time on social media.

I’m here to tell you the opposite.

2 years ago, I heard writer David Perell invested 2 hours/day on Twitter when he started out (he now has 400k followers and makes millions).

I was mindblown. I felt freed.

Suddenly, Twitter was no longer a waste of time in my mind. It was an investment in my career. Like paying for an education or investing in starting a business, I’d have to invest my time and energy to learn and grow on there.

See, I’d been tweeting since 2011 when I was 14. But throughout high school, everyone told me social media was a waste of time. So I never spent real time on it. When I heard David talk about Twitter, it finally clicked. They were wrong, I was right. This Twitter thing or social media in general isn’t a waste of time if you do it right. It could help me make my dreams come true. So I started spending 2+ hours/day on Twitter plus many more hours writing for it. And that’s when I started accelerating.

If you’re struggling on socials, you might just have to accept a hard truth: you’re not spending enough time putting in the work. You’re spending 10 min/day writing tweets while people are spending hours making content and making internet friends.

"The poker books and self-help courses will never tell you this, but the first step toward succeeding at anything—from poker to attracting women to life in general—depends on finding a way to cram the most experience into the shortest period of time."

Dan Bilzerian

Bilzerian is right. Give yourself the permission to invest the time in your social media. It’s not silly, it’s not a waste of time like your parents said. It’s what will make your dreams come true. But only if you take the time to do it.

The steps are simple:

  1. Make cool content

  2. Make cool internet friends

Then let The Cool Shit Law take effect.

The more intense you do 1 and 2, the more intense your Cool Shit Curve.
